This viola, made by Rowan Armour-Brown (1948 - 1996) was left 'in the white' at her death. It was varnished and set up in 2018 by her friend and colleague Patrick Jowett. The wood of the front is close grain spruce and the back is regular flamed maple. The varnish is a rich deep orange oil varnish.

Several early award winners now offer work experience placements to current students in their turn.
