A beautiful German violin with a lion's head depicted on its scroll. Violins with lion heads were produced in Saxony, Germany, and are often associated with the Mittenwald region. The lion's head violins are known for their unique craftsmanship and design, and are a distinctive part of the German violin-making tradition, showcasing the artistry and skill of the craftsmen from that era. In the late 19th century, the lion head would become a staple feature of German violin making. This violin was made around 1800, making it a rare and much older example of the beautiful craftmanship from this region.
 
This violin has a colourful and focused tone. It sings in the higher register, and projects warmth in its lower register. Perfect for the advanced student or keen amateur.
 
A neck graft was performed on this violin by Beares. When this operation was performed exactly is unknown, but it would have been conducted in the first half of the 20th century.
