Chipot-Vuillaume was a French violin maker (1847 – 1892) who studied with Derazey and later employed by the Colin-Mezin shop before establishing his own shop. The Vuillaume name came from his marriage to a Stella Vuillaume, who was unrelated to the dealer J.B. Vuillaume. The violin has been serviced and set up at Stamford Strings with a new bridge and sound post, new pegs, tailpiece and endpin and new Pirastro Obligato Strings.
the front
Lovely fine grained spruce, and a lovely semi-matt finish, sharp corners and elegant f holes.
The back
Beautiful strongly flamed two piece maple back.
The ribs and the scroll
The side view shows off the elegant outline and arching. The scroll is typical of this maker, but one of his more elegant and refined examples, with the characteristic black edging.
