About
Libby Summers founded Stamford Strings in 2019 to provide Stamford and the surrounding area with servicing, repairs, restoration and sales of violins, violas and cellos. She draws on the expertise of other luthiers trained at Newark School of Violin Making and elsewhere. She believes that by working together, pooling their resources and their expertise, skilled craftsmen can thrive and flourish together, as well as providing a comprehensive and excellent service for the customer. As a violin player and teacher by background, Libby puts the needs of the player at centre stage at Stamford Strings. She carefully selects instruments for playability and sound, not primarily for their looks or investment value. Fine violins, violas and cellos are tools for players, and that is what Stamford Strings is all about - enabling players to reach their potential with the very best string instruments, set up expertly to work for them.
When she is not doing something with violins, Libby can be found knitting, seeking out the best coffee in town, putting up shelves, writing, reading or running. She is a self-confessed yarn and caffeine addict. At the moment her collection of yarn outweighs her collection of violins, but that balance could soon tip the other way!
Stamford Strings opened their first shop in Stamford, 3 St Leonards Street, Stamford, Lincs, PE9 2HU on Monday 21st September 2020.
In January 2022 Libby was joined by Carlos Libreros, luthier and in March 2022 by Nigel Melfi.
