Our doors are open by appointment or by chance.
If you wish to book a repair or visit the shop for an instrument purchase or trial or to purchase accessories, please email us, ring us, message us or use our appointment booking service. You can also contact us on social media. You are welcome to arrive at the shop without an appointment on the off-chance that we are available, but please bear in mind that you may have to wait if we are seeing to another customer, you may be asked to return at another time, or you may find that we are out on deliveries or fetching coffee!
If you are requesting a booking, we will reply quickly to offer you access to our calendar where you can choose a time. When you arrive for your appointment please knock or ring the doorbell and wait to be let in. If we are not visible, it means we are in our back workshop. If you get no response from the doorbell please call the telephone number above the door, but if you have an appointment we should be waiting for you.

Stamford Strings is passionate about new making and showcases instruments from new makers, alongside antique violins, many of which are restored in-house. We restore, repair and conserve instruments and provide an appraisal and insurance certificate service. Bow repairs and rehairs are a speciality, and we have a dedicated skilled specialist for this work.
Stamford Strings caters for all players, age ranges and abilities, from student to professional. Our shop is only 1.5 hours from Birmingham by direct train or road, one hour from Nottingham and Lincoln, 45 minutes from Leicester and 50 minutes from Cambridge. London is 45 minutes by train from nearby Peterborough too. Many prominent schools such as Oakham, Oundle and Uppingham are within half an hour’s drive, making it the ideal location for professionals, students and amateurs alike.
Stamford Strings also has a great range of instrumental bows, cases and accessories. We specialise in Bows for Violin Viola and Cello and some of our accessories for Violins and Cellos are designed and made by us or directly for us.

We are a busy luthier workshop as well as a retail shop, so it is best to make an appointment to ensure that we are ready to serve you.
We can open the shop on weekday evenings for instrument trials, pick ups or drop offs if you are travelling from a distance or cannot attend at other times, but please avoid these times if possible. There are occasional Saturdays when we might have to close but we will give advance notice here and on our Facebook page. |
By Train The train station is 12 minutes walk from the shop. Leaving the station road, head for the George Hotel, turn left to cross the town bridge, and walk up past the town hall. Turn right past St Mary's Church, and walk past The Arts Centre into St George's Square. take the road to the left of St George's Church, and follow the road around to the left, then take a sharp right onto St Leonard's Street. By Car There are a limited number of FREE 2 hour parking spaces on St Leonards Street, and a small car park almost opposite the shop. The machine takes cash and there is an app to pay online, However, the mobile signal is very poor, so we recommend bringing cash with you. The cost is 90p for 30 minutes, £1.20 for one hour, £1.90 for two hours or £2.50 for three hours. There is further parking on Wharf Road. Walk up Gas Lane opposite the exit to the car park to reach St Leonards Street. |
