Instruments by Helen Michetschläger are rarely available these days, due to her popularity and established reputation as one of the UK's leading makers. This cello is a particularly fine example of Helen's work. Helen writes: "I had the chance some years ago of measuring the Barjansky Strad cello which at that time belonged to Julian Lloyd Webber. It was made in 1690, so one of the large pattern models, which had been cut down. I made it a few times like that but the proportions were a bit clumsy with long Cs and foreshortened bouts. So I redrew it, rebalancing it so that it conformed more to the classic Strad pattern, but still keeping the higher, fuller arching." We think that the result of this extensive research is quite remarkable - perfection itself in cello form! We invite you to come and try and see for yourself.
The instrument has been preserved in remarkably good condition, with just a bit of natural wear to the varnish, which enhances it's quality. We have put a new bridge on it however, as the old one had warped when it came to us. It has had one previous owner who bought it from Helen new.
