About Trio Stradella

Since their formation in 2023, Trio Stradella have quickly established themselves as one of the UK’s most exciting young chamber groups. Formed of musicians who studied together at Chetham’s School of Music, the group has proved at home in classical, romantic, and contemporary repertoire.

In their inaugural year as a group they were Young Artists in Residence at Krysia Osostowicz’s Dante Festival in Cornwall, where they performed in Lavethan House and St Brewards’ Church as part of their residency. Since then the trio has performed around the UK in festivals and venues such as Wye Valley, and Bristol Music, and received mentorship from Charles Owen, Robin Michael, Robin Ireland and Daniel Tong.

Violinist Elena Toledo is currently undertaking her Master’s studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where she studies with Krysia Osostowicz and Stephanie Gonley. She is an active soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral leader, with performances across the UK and Europe.
As a soloist, Elena has appeared in Vivaldi’s Four Seasons at the Music on the Moor Festival (2025) and Bruch’s Violin Concerto with the Wyre Forest Symphony Orchestra (2023). She has participated in masterclasses with leading artists including Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Jennifer Pike, Anthony Marwood, and Pascal Rogé. A committed chamber musician, she is regularly invited to perform at festivals such as the NOVA Classical Music Festival, Dante Festival, Maldon Festival, and Wye Valley Chamber Music Festival, and has received coaching from distinguished musicians including Gábor Takács-Nagy and David Waterman.
Elena has a strong orchestral profile, most recently leading the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican Hall. She is a frequent auditioned extra with the Hallé Orchestra, performing on UK tours, live BBC Radio broadcasts, and collaborations with conductors including Sir Mark Elder and Thomas Adès, alongside soloists such as Nicola Benedetti and Steven Isserlis. She has recently been offered a position in the first violins of Dorset Opera Festival and is supported by the Harrison-Frank Family Foundation Award and a Help Musicians Scholarship.

Cellist Joseph Barker began his musical training with Chris Pascoe and Richard Jenkinson before continuing his studies at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester under Gil Thoday. During his time at Chetham’s, he performed extensively as both a soloist and ensemble musician, appearing in major venues including Birmingham Town Hall and the Royal Albert Hall. He was a regular participant in masterclasses with internationally renowned cellists and toured nationally and internationally with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, performing in cities such as London, Manchester, and Berlin.
Joseph went on to study at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London with Louise Hopkins. While at Guildhall, he won the St James Prize and graduated with a Concert Recital Diploma and has since performed throughout the UK in a solo capacity and as a member of Trio Stradella and Quartet Concrète.
Alongside his performing career, Josephis deeply committed to community and cross-disciplinary work. He founded the Nova Festival, an annual music festival in his native St Austell, Cornwall, now in its sixth year and attracting emerging and established artists from across the UK, as well as performing outreach within the community around St Austell. Recent performance highlights include chamber music collaborations with the Brodsky Quartet and a Schubert Quintet at Conway Hall.

Pianist Rose McLachlan joined the trio in 2025. She was born into a musical family in Cheshire, and began piano lessons aged seven with her father, Murray McLachlan, later entering Chetham’s School of Music, studying piano with Helen Krizos. She has performed widely across the UK at venues including the Barber Institute of Fine Arts, Stoller Hall, St James Piccadilly, and St Martin-in-the-Fields, as well as internationally in Europe and the United States.
Rose has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including performances of Ravel’s G major Piano Concerto with Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra and the Haffner Orchestra, Clara Schumann’s Piano Concerto with the New Tyneside Orchestra, and Shostakovich’s Second Piano Concerto with the BBC Concert Orchestra under Barry Wordsworth, broadcast twice on BBC Radio 3. In 2022, after winning the Young Artists Concerto Competition at the PianoTexas International Festival and Academy, she performed Chopin’s E minor Piano Concerto with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra conducted by Peter Bay.
Her major awards include first prize in the Christopher Duke International Piano Competition, the Musician’s Company Silver Medal, the Scottish International Youth Prize, and the Beethoven Society of Europe Junior Intercollegiate Competition. Rose has released commercial recordings on Divine Art and Naxos and is currently studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Charles Owen, supported by several major bursaries.
